Is this a genuine Cartier watch? I can't find any other examples of this online, but the antique shop we bought it in says it's from the 30's, 18k gold. It has a backwinder, i.e. a winder on the back, and I did come across one reference online to a design Cartier did with a winder on the back (Roadster I think), but I can't find it again The back is stamped with a serial number 27144 and two symbols which might be hallmarks? There also seems to be a number 5341 under the winder, though it's hard to make it out clearly. The face has CARTIER and FRANCE printed on it, and uses arabic rather than roman numerals. The face also seems to be slightly embossed with the numbers and the two words on an area that is slightly raised. Any ideas if this is genuine, and what it might be worth? Thanks, Ciaran.

At a minmium, you have a Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan from the 1930s. I would need to see the watch in person to determine that it is a Cartier retailed version of the same, but I suspect, someone just painted Cartier on the dial. The "FRANCE" doesn't look right to me. Cartiers normally have digits printed on the back of the lugs, which I don't see and the movements are usually signed "European Watch Company" rather than LeCoultre or Jaeger-LeCoultre. |

OK, so any idea what kind of value it might have, dependent on if it's a Cartier retailed version or not? Thanks. |

If it's a real Cartier, it's a lot more. |
