Hi, I've seen a few 14kt gold Omega ladies dress watches on ebay, various antique jewelry sites, etc., dating from approx. 1970 - 1990. I'm wondering how to tell if they are genuine. I have read that Omega did not mark the outside backs of their cases, only the insides, but it's the smaller more decorative details that I'm concerned about.

For instance, did Omega ever use crowns with jewels on the end of them, instead of the more typical Omega logo?

Were the faces ever marked "Quartz"?

Again, I'm not talking about the famous Seamaster or De Ville lines, but the ladies Omega dress watches that varied in styling from year to year.

Thanks,
Sara

Added: Based on the overall design/style of the watch cases, I'm thinking the "Quartz" on the face and the jeweled cabochon crown may be later -- early to mid-1990s -- rather than 1970s or 1980s. But again, I'm not sure, and with this brand I'm always concerned about fakes.

It's really hard to answer this question without a photo. Mechanical watches are a lot harder to fake, so maybe that's the way to go?

Thanks, Zaf. I went ahead and bought the quartz Omega with the proviso that I could return it if it was not authentic. My jeweler opened the watch and looked up the movement and verified that it was indeed an authentic Omega. Here's the link to the ebay auction (completed)

I am in the market for a mechanical Omega. I'd like a small men's or a not-to-small women's, approx 25 mm to 30 mm without crown. These are hard to find and get snatched up quickly, especially in my price range, $500 to $1,000. I also like engraved and ornamental cases, and those are harder to find, too.

But I check your listings regularly, and I'm sure I'll find one eventually.

Thanks for this forum -- it really helps a new collector like me to gain confidence about collecting.

Good deal, I don't think you paid much more than gold value these days. For more vintage Omega, I like your though of going with a small mens watch rather than a dedicated ladies watch or a mid size. They tend to hold their value better than the ladies pieces, unless of course you get them very cheaply to begin with.
