I would like to learn more about this interesting (at least to me) timepiece and wonder at its origin. In reviewing this forum it appears there are alot of questionable watches from this era. Any idea where I might find more information about it historically? the person it was presented to? why? Is it reasonable to assume the fob and watch were originally a pair? Is it collectable/valuable? Am I asking too many questions? It may not be legible, but on the fob are engraved W.Wesch, s. lb. or maybe s. 16. , Joachim Henschke, and the date 24-12-1939. There are numbers inside on both the case (two rows of numbers) and the movement (one row). The case has a nice patina, it runs, and overall it seems to be in very good condition. Any information you could provide would be sincerely appreciated

Hi! I can't tell you anything about the pocketwatch, but some thoughts on the fob: It seems to be part of a band worn around the chest by students in a student corps in germany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Student_Corps Although the colours are in the wrong order, the so called "Zirkel" fits "Ratisbonia München", founded on 19.01.1873.
Even though the "Corps" and "Burschenschaften" are said to be rather right-wing organisations today, they were disbanded around 1935 for opposing the NS-regime... This would imply the watch and fob don't belong together...also the date is a little suspicious, because the corps didn't exist at that time... Maybe they can help you discover more of at least the fob's history if you drop them a mail: http://www.ratisbonia.encke.net/ Slade. |

Slade, Thanks for the info. I will do just that and drop them an email. I am more interested in the history of both or either piece than the value, although a value is always nice to know. As it was a gift from a friend who knows my penchant for watches and history, I have nothing vested in it other than curiosity. Regards Kevin |
