I won this watch on ebay an am supposed to pay for it on Monday. It just occurred to me that even though the seller has excellent feedback, other buyers may be just as uneducated as myself so I thought I'd get your opinion on the authenticity and maybe value. Thanks!

Hard to tell, do you have photos of the insides? Movement & case back?

I'm not an early Cartier expert, but I would expect *some* stamping of Cartier on the movement and possibly the case back.

To me, the dial looks refinished on that watch, so it isn't enough to go by. My guy feeling is that the watch is not a Cartier.

I hope you didn't pay a ton of money for it.

The dial is DEFINITELY refinished and not original. Cartier also didn't mark their dials "Swiss", since they were manufactured in France. The older original vintage Cartier dials have no origin markings at the bottom of the dial and a few say "Paris" under the Cartier name.

The movement also doesn't match anything I've ever seen in a Cartier I've owned nor any Cartier movement shown in my reference library. Cartier movements of this period were generally marked "European Watch & Clock Company"

Cartier cases were usually marked "Cartier" or "European Watch & Clock Company", though not always. They normally used the French Gold/Platinum (Eagle/Dog) hallmarks instead of the Swiss hallmarks.

The watch is not Cartier.
