Not really a military watch, but a watch with a military history. As we have just passed the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, I thought I would share it with you. Sterling silver case hallmarked London 1914 and signed W&D (Wilsdorf & Davis), as well as Rolex. 13 ligne 15 j. Rebberg movement. Dial signed ROLEX with a 24-hr ring added. Exported to Australia where on Dec. 3 1915, it was presented to one A.H. Lawler, a 24 yr old coal miner in New South Wales who had enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces. In Jan. 1916 he shipped from Sydney to Alexandria (leaving his watch behind with his young wife), and thence to Marseille, just in time for the Somme Offensive. On Aug. 4, 1916 he was blown up during the Battle of Pozieres - 1 of 23,000 Aussie casualties in a week!
