A very simple question for which I don't seem to find the right answer. So I am turning to the pros: to be USAAC or RAF issued WW2, a Longines or Lecoultre Weems has to have Air Corps/RAF issue markings? if the watch has just a serial number and a patent number then it is civilian issue? Thanks so much the infos on this point. Best. Antoine

The USAAC Weems were marked with A-11 markings and the RAF one had Air MNinistry markings and a royal crown on the back. It isn't clear if any unmarked watches made their way to combat, but we'll never really know. So to be certain you have an issue timepiece, get one with markings.

OK Zaf, thanks very much for clearing up this point. I appreciate it. I am actually looking for a Weems either USAAC or RAF issue. If you know of one or hear of one, I'd be interested.
Also last we spoke you mentioned it would not be a problem to replace a 33,5mm armoured glass with ring for an Omega 6B/542. Where can I get one? I have seen this web site (http://www.watch-batteries.com/mater...ss-Crystal.htm), but I am not sure it is reliable. What is your suggestion? Thanks very much.

The term wheems had to do with a plastic plotter which we used to determinbe ground speed drift angles etc. The A-11 wasn't a wheems anything. It was a watch and was never called a wheems

Hi Art. Weems refers to Philp Van Horn Weems, a Naval navigator that invented the "seconds setting system" in which a pilot could synchrononize his watch with another pilot by rotating the "zero" on the outer bezel of a his watch (graduated 0-60) to line up the seconds hand with the zero on the bezel. This is in lieu of hacking the watch. The seconds are read off the bezel rather than the dial and both pilots are reading the same thing.

I have had this Longines for at least10 years
and I am not sure of it authenticity/origin.
I thought it was a Weems. 0-60movable bezel,
no. 1-12 outer ring, 13-24 inner ring. The dial
is either new or redialed. No marks on the exterior. Any thoughts?
