Hi

I have recently been given a omega 53 watch with the serial number:

6645 101000 6
6B/542
7283/53

I just wondered if it possible to find out who the watch was originally issued to and if so how you go about doing that, if thats possible. Thanks.

Not possible to know the indivdual, no. It may have been used by several indivduals anyways.

Hello Zaf, is it true that the crystal on an Omega 53 has to have the omega symbol visible in the centre? Thanks for any input on that. Antoine

To my knowledge, the original Omega crystal from 1953 DID NOT have the Omega symbol in the centre, only modern modern replacements.

Ok, thanks very much. I appreciate your info. This guy was trying to sell me a replacement crystal for an Omega 53 and said it had to have the omega symbol visible in it. I didn't feel right about it. I just bought an omega 53 (broad arrow) and the crystal is rather scratched. Once I get it I'll have to see if it can be polished back. Antoine

Zaf, how easy/difficult is it to get a crystal replacement for an Omega 53? I am thinking that if the crystal on mine doesn't come through after polishing it I should change it. But if impossible to do, then I will return the watch.

It would be silly to return a watch, assuming all else is OK, because of the crystal. There are plenty of 33.5mm armored types with chrome tension ring available.

Does any body know the difference between the designation 6b/542 on the case back of the omega 53 military watch and the one my customer owns that his dad was issued which is marked 6s/542 instead? He was a dispatch rider (motorcycle)f for the Brit army during WWII...

Any chance of a photo? Sounds like an interesting variant. This is a post WWII watch by the way, by 8 years.
