Need some help - I am new to the post and to watch collecting. I am interested in WWII period military watches specifically Hamiltons. Can anyone share any insights to identifying, collecting the R88-W-800. This one recently showed up on ebay. Concerned with all the posts about fakes on ebay.
Thanks

My gut feeling is that it is genuine.
I think it's a Navy issue watch, WWII era.

I don't think it is military issue. If it were it would have the data engraved on the back and woulkd have a black face that it UV sensitive and would light up under UV light. As did my hack watch circa 1943 Army Air Corps. I think it is genuine, just noy military.

Hi there, if you poke around a little on the web, you'll find that the spec R88-W-800 is the USN version of the Air Corps Type A-11.

I think the stories are more interesting than the pictures.

This Hamilton looks to me to be a US Navy issued watch from WWII. It should have an "H" between the lugs. Hamilton produced 22,410 987s(sweep second hand) movements from 1940-45
